Hamdori

A hamster lives in the corner of your desktop

A lifelike hamster lives in a borderless, see-through window on your desktop. It loves a gentle rub, gathers seeds while you type, and takes breaks with you.

Hi! Want to work together?

Next to you all day

Every clip below shows the real app.

Pet it

Rub it gently with your cursor and it closes its eyes and sends up hearts.

Pick it up

Press and drag the hamster and it dangles along. Set it down and it sometimes shakes itself off.

Toys to play with

Pick a paper tunnel, a tissue or a felt ball from the box beside the house and hand it over. The head pops out of the tunnel, the tissue turns into a tug-of-war, and the ball gets nudged with a nose and a paw.

Type and a seed pops out

Seeds appear as you type. It nibbles some and stuffs the rest in its cheeks.

Hand it a seed

Saved seeds pile up in its house. Click the house to take one out, then hold it up to its mouth.

A nap while you're away

Step away for a minute and it digs a nest and falls asleep. It wakes up when you're back.

First launch on Windows

Hamdori is a new app from a solo developer, and its Windows installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may show a warning and "Unknown publisher". The steps below are for the "Windows protected your PC" screen.

See the steps
  1. Open the Hamdori installer you downloaded.
  2. When "Windows protected your PC" appears, click "More info".
  3. The publisher shows as "Unknown publisher". If you downloaded the file from this site, click "Run anyway".
  4. When setup finishes, Hamdori appears in the corner of your screen. Enter the key from your receipt.

On Windows 11 PCs with Smart App Control turned on, the installer may be blocked. You won't have activated your key yet, so you can get a refund. Download the installer only from this site.

And while you work

Take breaks together

Right-click the hamster, choose Break Together, then click the little clock. Focus for 25 minutes, then rest for 5 together.

Points out big unused apps

When memory runs low, it shows memory-heavy apps you're not using. Only an app you pick and confirm is asked to quit, the same way you'd quit it yourself.

File drawer

Drop files on the hamster to keep them in its drawer. Drag a row onto another app to use the file. The original stays where it is.

Safe to keep around

  • No monitoring permissionsIt works without Accessibility, Screen Recording or Input Monitoring access. It asks about notifications only if you turn them on.
  • It never sees what you typeOn a Mac it reads only how many keys were pressed; on Windows, only the time of the last keyboard or mouse input. For the mouse, only how many clicks, scrolls and moves, and where the cursor is. Never which key.
  • No accountNo sign-in, no sign-up. Just the key from your receipt email.
  • What you do stays on your computerNothing about how you use it leaves your device. It goes online only to check your license (when you enter your key, then about once a day), and when you press "Check for updates".

Questions

When does it go online?

Only in two cases: to check your license when you enter your key (and about once a day after that), and to look for a new version when you press "Check for updates" (right-click the hamster, then Open Panel). It never goes online otherwise.

How does it know I'm typing without monitoring permissions?

It uses only what the system tells any app. On a Mac, how many keys were pressed; on Windows, the time of the last keyboard or mouse input. For the mouse, how many clicks, scrolls and moves, and where the cursor is. It can't know which keys or what you wrote.

Does it close apps by itself?

No. When memory is full it only shows candidates. An app is asked to quit normally only after you pick it from the list and click "Close". If a document is unsaved, that app asks you to save it. There is no fake "memory cleaning".

Will it slow my computer down?

It draws less often while nothing is happening. While a supported meeting or video app is in front, it holds back its speech bubbles, timer chime and notification.

Can I buy on my phone?

Yes. Your receipt email has your key and the download link. Open it on your computer later.

Does it run on Intel Macs?

No. Hamdori currently supports Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later).

How do I reinstall it?

Get the latest version from the download page any time. Your key is in your receipt email.

What if I change computers?

One key works on up to 3 computers. If you need more, email us and we'll free up an old one.
